Hyaluronic Acid: Fact vs. Fiction

Hyaluronic acid — the facts:

  • It is a humectant.  A critical ingredient that helps your skin attract and retain moisture.  Results:  plumper, more youthful looking skin with fewer wrinkles!

  • It is a hydrator — not just any hydrator.  It holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water.  One gram of hyaluronic acid can hold up to six liters of water.  It is the most effective hydrating agent in the skin care world today.

  • Superior antioxidant defense.  Turn back the hands of time — helps prevent premature aging.

  • We are born with it.  The amount of hyaluronic acid in our body decreases with age.  It must be replenished to remain youthful looking!

Hyaluronic acid — the fiction:

  • Harsh on your skin — no.  Even though it contains “acid” in the name, it is not irritating or harsh to the skin.  In fact, it helps give your skin that healthy, dewy appearance.

  • Made from chicken comb — yes and no.  Skin care products typically contain either botanically-derived or synthetic hyaluronic acid.  (Jakare uses a botanically-derived form.)  Hyaluronic acid extracted from chicken combs is more commonly used for therapeutic reasons such as relief from joint inflammation and arthritic conditions.
